Dixie is smart, talented, and easy to train.

UPDATED PHOTOS AND VIDEOS WILL BE ADDED HERE REGULARLY.

She is growing up strong and is built correctly. We have done this cross several times, and her full siblings are performance horses earning their keep in Florida, Wisconsin, and Oklahoma in Stock Horse, Roping, and Reined Cow Horse. Her dam’s other progeny by Bob Hes Quick (our Bet Hesa Cat stallion) have earnings in barrels, working ranch horse, and other events. Lady Sky Six (dam) was born and raised on our ranch, and her bloodlines go back to Doc O’ Lena, Ranch Colonel, Sky High Leo, and Flying X Six - both from Kreb’s Quarter Horses of Scott City, KS & shown by Bozo Rogers.

Dixie has been started in our colt-starting program, benefiting from Jason’s 35 years of experience and love of the RCH event. She will be gritty on a cow and handles training and life in general like a pro. She has great ground manners, ties, and bathes and stands for the farrier.

She will be a carbon copy of her sire (Cats Royal Boon) and as fancy as they come.

Dixie will mature to a thick 14.2-14.3h with quick feet, a ton of cow, beautiful stops, & pretty circles. She will make an OPEN-LEVEL FUTURITY REINED COW HORSE in the right hands, a national-level versatility/stock horse or futurity rope horse (think tie-down/heel), and more!

More Details:

  • Important to mention that Jason Perry is 6’2” with a 39” inseam for all riding videos.

  • Raised and trained by a professional and nationally respected colt starter & RCH/VRH trainer.

  • Dental with wolf tooth extraction done 2/19/2025

  • 2025 Spring Vaccinations (Merck's Prestige 5 + West Nile) and Deworming (Equimax) done 3/10/2025.

  • Jason’s colt starting program is based on 35 years and 10,000 colt starts. He uses his initial groundwork to strengthen bodies and minds for the journey before them. The goal is to set up a fruitful performance future with an easy-to-train, trusting, sound, talented horse. This takes however long it takes before riding is started. Each horse is an individual.

  • Videos below are in REVERSE date order - her first rides were done 3 days in a row from 12/13 to 12/15. This is a modified version of an old technique Jason learned from Ray Hunt. It may look like chaos to those who don’t know the nuances of colt starting, but it is an excellent way to get them ridden in short rides, get good progress in a low-stress environment, and get them out of the round pen quicker. We use the round pen as needed, but this method is a great way to get them out and allow them to stretch their legs and move

  • She has a great set of manners and has been exposed to farm machinery, dogs, cattle/buffalo, horse walkers, etc.

  • Been on BUCKEYE Nutrition’s feed program since weaning to encourage steady skeletal and muscle growth to promote performance and longevity.

  • Always had proper foot care, timely vaccinations & deworming etc.

  • Has the mind and talent to be an Open or NP-level RCH, VRH, or any Western event.

  • She is welcome to stay in our training program for as long as the new owner wishes. As a buyer incentive, we offer a training discount of $250 off each month for the first six months of training.

Our unique 40-year breeding program offers buyers many benefits:

  • We are a small, hands-on operation, so we know our horses as well as anyone can. We’ve known the horses born here since the moment they were born. Both sire and dam of this prospect live on our ranch. Many of our broodmares were born and raised here, too. Or purchased when they were very young, then trained by Jason and had show careers before becoming broodmares. Our stallions were all purchased as youngsters, trained, and shown here. Learn more about our breeding program.

  • Our feed program was designed by an equine nutritionist, PhD. This filly has been on BUCKEYE Nutrition’s feed program all along.

  • We aren’t new to what makes a truly enjoyable performance horse. They need certain qualities and attributes, starting with trainable minds and high-level talent. Correct conformation, great bone and feet, pretty reining maneuvers, and a strong drive to work cattle are all important. We created this baseline for ourselves as breeders and work hard each year to improve them.

Ride #30ish—3/18/2025. This fancy and easy-to-train filly takes the cake as a RCH and VRH prospect. She is happy to work and understands aids. Open caliber. If she is this nice with this few rides, imagine what a bright future she will have when she is finished.

Flag work from ride #30ish.

10th ride - (Video taken 2/18/25) just fiddling around in the arena and 1st time tracking the flag.

OLDER VIDEOS

Last day of Groundwork before 1st ride. 12/12/24

1st ride - 12/13/24 NO CUTS!! - for more info about our training methodology please read the video description on YouTube. You will see she had a little spice to her in this ride - her momma is a 2001 mare who has been our alpha for a long time. She was a little offended with all the other horses in there for a bit. But you can see the change during the video and by video three (just 2 days later) the change is extraordinary.

2nd ride 12/14/24 - for more info about our training methodology please read the video description on YouTube.

3rd ride (12/15/24) - for more info about our training methodology please read the video description on YouTube.

If you made it this far, thank you!

The horse below is an example of what “Dixie” can be if training continues in a quality program.

This is a 2021 7/8 sister; the video is from the warm-up pen in Fort Worth at the NRCHA SBF 10/24. A week after we got home, we sold her to the first people to call us on her for our asking price. She is now in a top Texas RCH program.

Dixie will be the same size and has the same raw talent. In the right program, she can go much further.
